18 Oct POPE FRANCIS APPOINTS SIX GREGORIAN ALUMNI AS NEW CARDINALS

On 9 October the Holy Father announced the next consistory on 19 November 2016 in which he will appoint thirteen new cardinals from five continents. Six of the new cardinals are alumni of our university:
  • Msgr. MARIO ZENARI, Apostolic Nuncio in Syria, was a student of the Faculty of Canon Law at the Gregorian University.
  • Msgr. BLASÉ J. CUPICH, Archbishop of Chicago, was a student of the Faculty of Theology at the Gregorian University.
  • Msgr. KEVIN JOSEPH FARREL, Prefect of the Congregation for the Laity, the Family and Life, was a student of the Faculty of Philosophy at the Gregorian University.
  • Msgr. JOZEF DE KESEL, Archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels (Belgium), was a student of the Faculties of Philosophy and of Theology at the Gregorian University.
  • Msgr. MAURICE PIAT, Archbishop of Port-Louis (Mauritius), was a student of the Faculty of Theology at the Gregorian University.
  • Msgr. CHARLES AGUIAR RETES, Archbishop of Tlalnepantla (Mexico), was a student of the Faculty of Theology at the Gregorian University.
